Biting Insects

The most common cause of bites in the UK are fleas and bedbugs.

The flea

The 3 most common types of fleas in our homes are: the cat flea, dog flea and the bird flea. Fleas are one of the few insects that can build up resistance against DIY methods of flea control. When fleas bite the human they tend to go for the lower part of the body, some people may not react to flea bites, however a large number of people do react and come out in a red painful/itchy rash. If the flea bites a child the bite could be anywhere on the body.  Four to eight eggs are laid after each blood meal and a single female may produce 800-1000 eggs during her lifetime, which may be as long as two years.

Treatment required: The property needs to be fully cleaned. We can then carry out a full treatment of spraying all the areas with a residual insecticide and also fumigating the whole of the property. This must be carried out by a professional pest control company. Ring today for a quotation and eradicate the fleas immediately.

The bedbug

The bed bug is the fastest growing pest in the world at this moment in time. The bedbug could travel with you if you have stayed in a room affected with bedbugs. As bedbugs cannot fly, they must either crawl or be passively transported in clothing, or more probably in luggage, furniture, books and other objects used as harbourages. Their ability to withstand many months without feeding increase their chances of surviving such transportation.

Most bed bug infestations are to be found in domestic premises and hotels, usually in the bedrooms. They hide away in cracks and crevices for most of the time and come out at night, usually just before dawn, to feed on the blood of their sleeping hosts. Their hiding-places will be close to where their hosts sleep: in the bed frame of the mattress, in furniture, behind skirting, behind the wallpaper - anywhere that affords a dark harbourage during the daylight hours for these nocturnal creature. Bedbug bites are normally on the back, arms and face.

Treatment is so important to be carried out professionally as to try to treat yourself will result in the bugs being spread to other areas of the property. The treatment varies depending on how bad the infestation is. In cases it may be necessary to dispose of furniture. If this is the case it must be firstly treated, wrapped and sealed to prevent any bedbugs escaping whilst being transported out of the property.

Initial treatment would be full inspection, residual insecticide sprays and fumigation. Followed by two follow up treatments.
